Organisational Structure, Programmes, Funding and Governance
Organisational Structure
WEast Chernobyl is run by a board comprising of a Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, President, Project Managers and a Public Relations Officer. These individuals meet on a monthly basis. Volunteers are invited and encouraged to attend these meetings.
Although the board are responsible for the organisation of WEast Chernobyl, it is our volunteers who are the backbone of our organisation. WEast Chernobyl volunteers can generally be divided into to categories:
- Home Volunteers: Based in Northern Ireland and responsible for the day to day running of the group, organisation and essentially making our work in Belarus possible.
- Belarus volunteers: Volunteers who travel with us to Belarus and volunteer on our project sites or volunteers who Belarus nationals.
We welcome volunteer applications from Northern Ireland and the wider UK region, Ireland and the European Union and those from within Belarus itself.
Additionally throughout the year WEast Chernobyl will take on short-term volunteers to help out at home on an ad-hoc basis. If you know of anyone who could help in any capacity, please let us know.
Programmes
WEast Chernobyl’s work in Belarus is only possible with the development of specifically designed programmes. These are designed to meet the mission of our organisation and best help those in need.
We welcome input from all our volunteers into our programmes in their development and evaluation stages.
Funding
Fundraising is a huge part of WEast Chernobyl’s work at home. At this present time WEast Chernobyl is almost entirely funded by independent donations. Though this means keeping to a budget, it also allows us freedom with regards to programme development.
Within the next year we are seeking individuals to help us begin grant applications to be able to complete specific project aims.
Each volunteer travelling to Belarus is expected to fundraise in order to cover essential travel and programme cost. Home volunteers are also strongly encouraged to help with the raising of funds.
Governance
WEast Chernobyl is governed based on a series of policy documents including but not limited to a Constitution, Child Protection Policy, Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy, Volunteer Agreement, Media Policy etc. These are available to volunteers on request in hard-copy or digital format.
Volunteers travelling to Belarus are required to read and sign our “Volunteer Agreement Policy” and undergo AccessNI vetting procedures.
