“It is a great project to undertake though there a lot of problems to be sorted out. It is a huge challenge as a building project but the reward of completion would be immense.”
– WEast Chernobyl Volunteer, September 2012 at Kosava Institute
Kovava Adult Institute is located in the Brest Region of Belarus near the town of Kosava or Kossovo. A fter visiting Kosava adult institute for the first time in March 2012, WEast Chernobyl decided to lend a hand to Director Nikolai and his institute. Kosava Adult Institute cares for 480 adult patients from the age of 18 upwards, the patients have a wide range of disabilities.
In September 2012 two experienced trades volunteers from WEast Chernobyl visited Kosava and carried out a survey. Upon completion WEast Chernobyl decided to help Kosava adult institute renovate a bed bound unit within the complex.
In early October 2012 the first lorry load of humanitarian aid was delivered to Kosava Institute that included 12 hospital beds.
WEast Chernobyl believe that the work that will be undertaken in the coming years at Kosava as regards building renovation, mental health promotion and patient care will be a challenge for our volunteers but so worthwhile!
