Volunteering in Minsk
Baby Home No.1 in Minsk is an orphanage that is home to around 90 children aged between 0-4 years old. They come here from a variety of backgrounds, many are social orphans who have been given up or were taken from their parents.
The majority of children here have learning difficulties or other health issues, ranging from cerebral palsy to rare illnesses. Within the facility there is also a palliative care unit for severely disabled childrenwho are not expected to recover. |
What do we do?
About the projectAlthough many children in baby home no.1 will age-out of the system and enter the ‘real world’, in their formative years they do not have the chance to explore the outside world, leading to institutionalisation, a number of developmental problems or other issues.
Our project works with volunteers, local Belarusian universities, psychologists and social workers to help socialise the children and give them more opportunities in life. |
Volunteering with childrenAs a volunteer with us, you’ll work directly with the children involved in our project.
Before you start, we’ll develop a plan together so each day will be filled within impactful activities. Our local volunteers visit the baby home regularly, so you'll also get a chance to meet locals and learn about local culture. Time to put your skills to use and make the world a better place! |
Improving their environmentJust because the children are sleeping doesn’t mean the work stops – you’ll be busy! (don’t worry there’s lots of time to rest too)
The territory is in serious need of improvement, You can help us create colourful murals to bring light to the childrens’ lives. Or if you have special superpowers – plumbing, tiling, building etc. – we’ll happily find some work for you. |
